Hi! My name is Vita and TÀPU is my dream coming true. Idea of my own small business was born just after I became a MAMA of my biggest inspiration and teacher in life, my son Adomas, who is today 6 years old. That time I started thinking that life is too short not to follow my dream to work for myself and be able to spend plenty of time with my family and doing what I love! I was always passionate about style, active lifestyle and traveling. When my son was only 1, I decided to learn sewing basics, started a short course of how to use sewing machine, how to sew basic clothes for my little one and for myself. It really gave me realization that this is definitely going to impact what I am going to do one day. After Adomas started going to kindergarten I've got more free time, and tried to get a 'normal' job which didn't lasted for long, as after my son started to catch virus after virus in daycare my boss just told me that they can not keep me in position. At that time sadness came together with the thought, that everything happens for the reason and this is THE TIME! I must start moving towards my dream and this is the only way for single mother at that time to be able to spend enough time with my boy, to get rid of postpartum depression and to support myself and my little family. Soon I signed up for way more serious course of sewing and clothing design and started TÀPU brand.
What TÀPU means?
As this brand is a big part of my motherhood journey and is definitely inspired by my baby boy, I wanted some connection and the meaning in the brand name too. Since Adomas was a baby we just looooved spending time outside and went for the walks several times a day. When he started talking, his first word was TAPU TAPU, which is lithuanian onomatopoeia and means little steps, or going for the walk. I still remember until this day how cute it sounded from him, and though I will use this easy word to name our brand.
VISION
Once I started brand, it did not took me long to decide what TÀPU is going to be about.
First of all, I thought about what I love and miss in clothing brands the most which is MINIMALISM combined with HIGH QUALITY and NATURAL FABRICS. I strongly believe that less is more in style, so my collections are minimal but in the same time well made and presented. I use oversized style and neutral tones a lot, as it is not only easy to style, but also super practical in women's and especially kids clothing as they grow so fast!
Second thing that shapes TÀPU brand is opportunity for MAMA'S and their kids to match their outfits in cute and stylish way. Matching our clothes you will never look over the top, or too childish, but still, will be able to vibe with your LITTLE BESTIES.
And last, but not least, I want my business to be as friendly as possible to our Planet, so we seek to bravely call ourselves sustainable brand.
What in sustainability we are focusing on?
Ethical and fair trade practices
This means ensuring that all workers involved in the manufacturing process are paid fairly and work in safe conditions. It also means using materials that are sourced in an ethical and sustainable way.
Natural clothing
Natural clothing is made from materials like wool, linen, and cotton. These materials are renewable and biodegradable, making them more sustainable than synthetic materials.
Zero waste
Zero waste is another crucial concept of fashion and sustainability. It refers to the idea of minimizing waste throughout the entire life cycle of a garment, from production to disposal. This includes reducing waste during manufacturing, using biodegradable materials, and encouraging consumers to recycle or upcycle their clothing rather than throwing it away. For example, we always try to used leftovers of fabrics for our mini upcycling project or gift it to someone who are going to use it in the right ways. We also whenever possible try to buy recyclable or already recycled good such as packing inventory.
Made to order
We use this method not only to be able to individually adjust sizing if needed, but also to reduce waste, because we only use the resources needed to make the requested garments.
Preloved
We only use high quality materials, which means our products last long and most probably will be good enough to pass it to the siblings or to sell it as a preloved items, which is one of the best ways you can also reduce impact on our Mother Earth.
Also, I am always open for new ideas and ways of working, so if you would like to collab or work on something nice together feel free to send a message on Instagram or email: hello@tapubrand.com
Lots of love,
Vita.
